PROTECTING OUR PLACES PROGRAM

LANRMG now promotes a three day Natural Resource Management and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage canoe trip along the Lachlan River. Our main target market will be students in the Lachlan Catchment area however we have also extended an invitation to the broader community with the aim of increasing knowledge and bridging the gap of awareness.

Participants will gain an insight into issues affecting both NRM and Cultural Heritage along the Lachlan River. LANRMG will engage the services of landholders, Aboriginal elders and relevant Government Agencies as guest speakers outlining issues including but not limited to european carp, willow infestation, erosion, water quality, exotic plants and weeds as well as management techniques and conservation strategies to address many of these issues.

LANRMG has identified that many people are unaware of the issues along the Lachlan River and the impact these issues have on their lifestyles. The canoe trips will provide an opportunity to participate in hands on activities to gain a firsthand understanding of environmental impacts on the river and effect this has on the flora and fauna of the river and riparian zone. This tour will also demonstrate the river systems high cultural significance to Aboriginal people and other land holders giving the participants an understanding of the Aboriginal elders, natural resource workers and land managers.

Participants will engage in rehabilitation on environmentally degraded Aboriginal land along the river to gain an active knowledge of the impact of such practices.

Scheduled dates are from September 2009 through to April 2010. We have targeted groups of 30 people in order for the tour to run at full capacity however we will take bookings of less and group other bookings together. Alternatively if an organisation is interested in having a tour tailored to address specific numbers or educational outcomes we  are also able to accommodate them.
