Lachlan Aboriginal Agriculture & NRM Expo

The 2008 inagrual Lachlan Aboriginal Agricultural and Natural Resource Management Employment Expos. These Employment Expos have been developed through a funded partnership with the Department of Agricultural, Fishing and Forestry (DAFF) and the Lachlan Aboriginal Natural Resource Management Corporation (LANRMG). The selected venues and dates for the expos will be the 26th March in Cowra and the 28th March at Condobolin.

The expos will provide Aboriginal people with an insight into both Agriculture and Natural Resource Management industries. The LANRMG are currently looking for organisations to support these events by holding static displays that promote their organisation and provide Aboriginal people with information of employment opportunities in those respective industries.

The LANRMG will provide transport to Aboriginal people in communities around both locations with the expectation of over 300 people visiting the events over the 2 days. The events will also have several guest speakers both Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal speaking on Aboriginal employment issues and opportunities.

During the expos we will be staging outdoor presentations from Aboriginal people currently employed in an Agriculture or Natural Resource Management industries. These demonstrations will give Aboriginal people a realistic outlook of a career pathway and provide a greater opportunity to engage with presenters to obtain further information.

These events will be free of charge to all Agricultural and Natural Resource Management related industries, with tables and chairs supplied on request. Throughout the day there will be hot and cold food available at a small cost.  We currently have Aboriginal people attending the expos from the following communities Goulburn, Yass, Gunning, Blayney, Orange, Canowindra, Young, Boorowa, Cowra, Forbes, Parkes, West Wyalong, Condobolin, Lake Cargelligo, Hillston, Hay, Ivanhoe and Balranald.

Lake Brewster Aboriginal Employment Strategy

This project will continue the identification, management and monitoring of all Aboriginal cultural heritage at the Lake Brewster site. This will include all areas selected by the Lake Brewster Aboriginal Steering Committee.  The information collected by the Aboriginal Conservation Field Officers will provide Aboriginal people with historical information of Aboriginal people connection to the Lake Brewster landscape and will be used by the LCMA to promote Aboriginal cultural values and to strategically manage those values in the face of existing landuse activities within the catchment.

The Aboriginal Conservation Field Officers will be used to:

    • Identify sensitive and less sensitive areas within the Project Area;
    • Identify, manage and monitor construction site that could disturb Aboriginal cultural values in the landscape and archaeological sites. (see Lake Brewster Aboriginal Plan of Management)
    • Develop culturally appropriate management recommendations for land-use activities in the Project Area, such as fire management, pest control, rehabilitation works and activities associated with agricultural and pastoral industries;
    • Develop a recreational area using best practice conservation management techniques within the Project Area;
